Yellow mustard is a fast-growing annual plant, ideal as a green manure. The plants grow to about 1 meter tall and provide excellent ground cover. In winter, yellow mustard freezes completely, making it easy to work into the soil.

Use as green manure:

  • Improving soil structure
  • Adding organic matter to the soil
  • Suppressing weeds

Sowing and planting information:

  • One bag is sufficient for approximately 100 m²
  • For green manure: sow from March to August and mow before the plants form seed.
  • For seed production: sow in April, harvest in September. Sowing in September will usually result in no further seed formation.

    Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

    1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
    2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
    3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
    4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
