Each variety has its own unique charm. Besides asparagus plants, there are other products available that you can use for growing them, such as fertilizers and handy tools.

Grolim BIO – white asparagus

Early, productive, and classic in flavor, it's highly sought after by growers as an early variety. The thick, straight stalks make this a favorite for traditional asparagus lovers.

Grolim is ideally suited for both professional and hobby growers.

Xenolim BIO – green asparagus

It grows above ground, giving it its characteristic color and rich flavor. A planting density of approximately 4 plants per linear meter is recommended for Xenolim. No earthing up is required, making it easy to maintain. Xenolim can be harvested for the first time from the third year after planting.

Prius BIO – white and green

A versatile powerhouse. Prius is suitable for both white and green asparagus; depending on how you grow it, you can harvest white or green asparagus from the same plant.

In addition, there are also varieties available that have been specially developed for the cultivation of purple asparagus.

How to plant and care for asparagus plants

Asparagus plants are supplied as so-called claws – sturdy roots or asparagus claws that grow into productive plants. Asparagus claws are underground root structures of two-year-old asparagus plants. Besides claws, asparagus cuttings can also be used as planting material.

When to plant

In March or April, when the soil has warmed up. The plants are often grown organically, which is beneficial for crop development.

Soil type

Airy, well-drained, and rich in compost. Sandy soils are preferred for their well-draining properties. Avoid heavy, wet clay. Good soil for asparagus should be well-drained, preferably slightly sandy, and rich in organic matter.

How deep to plant

For white asparagus, dig a furrow about twenty-five centimeters deep. After planting, create ridges to optimize growth and harvest. The recommended planting depth for green asparagus is 10 to 30 cm.

Distance

Keep plants 20 to 30 centimeters apart and rows 1.5 meters apart. The recommended planting density for asparagus is 4 to 6 plants per linear meter.

Location

Asparagus plants prefer full sun for optimal production.

Cultivation methods

Film is widely used in professional cultivation to regulate temperature and sunlight. Film and other materials are widely used in professional cultivation.

Harvest

Wait to harvest until the third year. This gives the plants a chance to build strength. Early production and high yields are possible with the right varieties and cultivation techniques. From the fourth year onward, asparagus can be harvested in abundance until mid-June.

Varieties

Besides the well-known white and green asparagus, there are also purple asparagus varieties with unique characteristics. There are also dual-purpose varieties that can be used for both white and green asparagus.

Quality

Pay attention to the quality of the stems; hollow stems and physiological rust are important considerations during harvest.

Resistance

Some varieties are hardly susceptible to certain diseases, which makes cultivation easier.
