Loquat or Japanese Medlar - Eriobotrya japonica - 4-liter pot

The Loquat is an evergreen fruit tree that loves a mild climate and can tolerate light frost down to approximately -5°C. This self-pollinating tree grows to about 3–5 meters in open ground, but can also be kept perfectly in a pot, where it remains more compact. The loquat originates from Asia and is valued for its early harvest and juicy fruits with a fresh, sweet-and-sour flavor reminiscent of apricot and citrus.

The fruits are oval and turn from yellow to deep orange when ripe. They contain a few large seeds and have a soft, juicy texture. Loquats are delicious eaten fresh, but can also be processed into jam, syrup, or desserts. Due to their fresh flavor, they also pair well with savory dishes, for example in combination with poultry or pork.

Please note: the seeds and leaves are not edible. Protect young plants during severe frost, especially when in pots, and preferably place them in a sheltered, sunny spot.
