Organic ginger (Zingiber officinale) in P9 pot
Ginger is a unique and aromatic addition to the vegetable garden or pot, loved for its characteristic, spicy rhizomes. This organic-certified plant forms beautiful, reed-like stems with narrow, tropical leaves. Freshly harvested ginger from your own garden has a much fuller and more refined flavor than store-bought varieties. Ideal for tea, Asian dishes, baking, or as a healthy flavor enhancer in juices.
This perennial (non-hardy) plant grows to a height of approximately 80–120 cm and forms the well-known, branched rhizomes underground.
Plant ginger in a warm, sheltered, and bright spot (preferably in a greenhouse or large pot) in nutritious, well-draining soil. Ginger loves consistently moist soil, but avoid stagnant water to prevent root rot. As ginger cannot tolerate frost, the plant must be overwintered indoors in a frost-free place. Harvesting can take place after ±8–10 months, when the foliage begins to die back. Always save a piece of the root to replant.
