Mandarin (Citrus reticulata ‘Changsha’) - 2-litre pot

The ‘Changsha’ mandarin is a hardy citrus variety capable of withstanding temperatures down to -15ºC. This makes it an excellent choice for cultivation in the Netherlands and Belgium. This self-pollinating mandarin tree reaches a height of 2-3 metres in open ground, but is also well-suited to being kept in pots, where it remains smaller. The fruits are sweet and ripen between September and December.

This citrus tree loves full sun and requires well-draining soil, as it does not tolerate "wet feet."

Young plants are more sensitive to frost, so they should be grown in a protected environment for the first few years until they are sufficiently large and have achieved full winter hardiness.

Tips and care:

• Planting: because the trees are supplied in pots, they can be planted all year round. Preferably plant in the autumn, as the soil is still warm and moist, which allows the trees to root well in the ground. Plants that are planted in the autumn have a better-developed root system than plants that are only planted in the spring.
• Organic/non-organic: this planting material comes from a small-scale nursery without an official organic certificate. But don't worry, we are certain that it is free of pesticides.
• Note: Citrus plants can sometimes develop slightly yellowish leaves in winter. This is because they must not be fed during this period. Otherwise, they would grow too strongly and the new growth shoots would be at an increased risk of freezing. Provide the plant with nutrients again in the spring and it will turn a beautiful green once more.
