Pickers on the care of summer leeks:

When to plant out summer leeks? You can plant out summer leeks from mid-March to the second half of May. Leek plants are not picky about the type of soil, as long as it is fertile and well-drained. They do appreciate a sunny location. Traditionally, leeks are grown in the open ground, but you can also grow them in large, deep planters or raised beds if you have limited space. When to harvest leeks? Summer leeks can be harvested from the end of June to the end of October. Only harvest what you need for immediate use, because leeks cannot be stored for very long. Use a fork or spade to harvest, so that the stem does not break.
