Elephant garlic - Allium ampeloprasum var. ampeloprasum - 5 cloves

Elephant garlic is a quirky vegetable that you can eat in two ways. You can eat the stalks like leeks or eat the bulbs as garlic cloves. You can also replant (a portion of) the cloves. Please note that this garlic is sold per clove and not per bulb!

• Planting: plant the cloves in early spring or late autumn
• Planting distance: 15 cm between rows and plants
• Harvesting as leeks: in the spring, you can harvest some of the plants as spring leeks. In this case, you harvest the entire plant.
• Harvesting as garlic: let the rest grow until summer, when the foliage starts to die back (end of July/beginning of August). Then you harvest the bulbs.
• Replanting: save a few cloves to replant in the autumn for the following year.
