Tips and care

• Planting: plant the corms in the spring (March to May) as soon as the risk of heavy night frost has passed. Choose a sunny to lightly shaded spot with well-drained, humus-rich soil and plant them about 8 to 10 cm deep.

• Maintenance: keep the soil moderately moist during growth. Only cut back the spent flower stems when they discolor, but leave the foliage until it has withered for good energy storage in the corm.

• Overwintering: this montbretia is moderately to fully hardy. Cover the ground during the first few winters in case of severe frost with a layer of leaves or compost. After a few years, the clumps can easily remain in the ground in the right spot and will steadily expand.

• Open ground or pots: a Crocosmia forms beautiful, colorful clumps in open ground among perennials and ornamental grasses, but can also be planted well in spacious pots on the terrace.
