Patio plum tree (Prunus domestica 'Mirabelle') – 5-litre pot
Mirabelle is the queen of yellow plums. Beloved for its juicy, sweet fruits with a bright yellow skin and a delicate, rich flavour. These small, round plums are delicious eaten fresh from the tree, but are equally good used in jam, compote, tarts, or desserts. The tree blossoms beautifully with white flowers in March-April, and the fruits are ready for harvest in August.
Thanks to its compact patio tree rootstock, Mirabelle fits perfectly on a terrace, balcony, or in a small garden. Partially self-pollinating; for an even richer harvest, plant another plum tree nearby, such as 'Hauszwetsche', 'Opal', or 'Reine Claude Verte'.
What is a patio tree?
A patio tree is a compact tree specifically selected or grown to be suitable for smaller gardens, terraces, or patios. These trees are generally smaller in height and width than traditional trees, making them well-suited for limited spaces. On average (depending on pruning), they grow to +/- 150 cm in height. They have a rootstock that stimulates slow, compact growth. They are also often grown in pots or pruned in a special way to restrict their growth and control their size.

Tips and care:
-
Planting: because the trees are supplied in pots, they can be planted all year round. Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained, nutritious soil. Protect young trees against late night frosts in spring with fleece. The early blossoms are sensitive to frost.
-
Pruning: prune in summer after harvesting, never in winter. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches to ensure a healthy, open canopy. Do you want to keep the tree compact? Then prune back all new shoots after the harvest.
-
Feeding: fertilise in spring with an organic fertiliser for healthy growth and good fruit set. Give an extra dose in summer during fruit development.
-
Open ground or pots: Mirabelle thrives excellently in a large pot on the terrace or balcony. In open ground, the tree grows more vigorously and produces more fruit.
-
Support: provide support the first year with a sturdy stake and tree tie. Protect the fruit against birds with a fine net over the tree.
-
Watering: water regularly, especially during flowering and fruit development. Allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
TIP: Harvest the Mirabelle in dry weather for the best flavour and longest shelf life. Freshly picked mirabelles only last a few days, but they are so delicious that they always disappear quickly anyway!
