Columnar Apple 'Gold Sensation' – 5-litre pot

The 'Gold Sensation' columnar apple brings sunshine into the garden! This slender, column-shaped apple tree produces beautiful golden-yellow to yellow-green apples, often with a subtle blush on the sunny side. The fruits have a wonderfully sweet, honey-like flavour with a pleasantly crisp bite. Because this apple tree grows compactly and straight upwards, it makes an ideal combination with red and green columnar apples in a small space.

Delicious to eat straight off the tree, but also very suitable for apple dumplings, apple pie, compote, and fruit salads. Self-pollinating, bears fruit well on its own.

What is a columnar fruit tree?

A columnar fruit tree is a special type of fruit tree that has been bred to have a compact, vertical growth habit, similar to a pillar. This makes them particularly suitable for smaller gardens, patios, or even balconies where space is limited. Instead of growing into a wide tree, a columnar fruit tree grows in a sleek, upright form, allowing you to grow more fruit in a smaller area.

Tips and care:

• Planting: can be planted all year round thanks to the pot delivery. Place in a sunny spot for deliciously sweet apples.
• Pruning: prune longer side branches back to 10 cm from the main trunk in the summer to maintain the slender column shape.
• Nutrition: give a moderate portion of organic fertiliser in the spring.
• Open ground or pots: does very well in large pots and containers, but grows and bears most abundantly in open ground.
• Support: support the main trunk with a tree tie and stake for the first few years.

TIP: Combine 'Gold Sensation' next to a 'Red Sensation' and 'Green Sensation'. Not only does that look great in a row, but cross-pollination ensures even more apples for all the trees!
