Columnar apple 'Red Sensation' lives up to its name: this compact tree produces an abundance of beautiful, deep red, shiny apples. The apples have a wonderfully crunchy bite, are nice and juicy, and have a fine, fresh-sweet flavor. It is a very reliable bearer that blooms and fruits almost directly from the trunk, which is a spectacular sight on a patio or in the garden in the autumn.

Excellent as a fresh eating apple, but also delicious in apple pie, applesauce, and fresh salads. Self-pollinating, bears well on its own.

What is a columnar fruit tree?

A columnar fruit tree is a special type of fruit tree bred to have a compact, vertical growth habit, similar to a column. This makes them particularly suitable for smaller gardens, patios, or even balconies where space is limited. Instead of growing into a wide tree, a columnar fruit tree grows in a tight, upright shape, allowing you to grow more fruit in a smaller area.

Tips and care:

• Planting: can be planted all year round because it is delivered in a pot. Preferably place in a sunny spot for the best red fruit color.
• Pruning: hardly any pruning required. Shorten stray long side branches in June/July to maintain the tight column shape.
• Fertilization: fertilize in the spring with an organic fertilizer for fruit trees.
• Ground or pots: does excellently in spacious pots on the balcony or patio, provided it is watered regularly.
• Support: place a stake when planting to support the main trunk.

TIP: Give the tree enough sunlight! The more direct sunlight the apples receive, the deeper and more intense the red color of the skin will become.
