Brussels sprouts ( Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera ) are a typical autumn and winter vegetable. They are robust plants that last a long time in the garden and offer many harvests if you feed them well and protect them from cabbage root fly and cabbage butterfly.


🌱 Sowing & planting

  • Sowing depth: 0.5 cm
  • Pre-cultivation: sow in pots of about 8 cm, 2 seeds in the middle and keep the best plant
  • Germination temperature: 18–29 °C
  • Germination time: 🕒 5–10 days
  • Planting distance: approximately 60 cm around the plant
  • Plant out: when the plant has 6–8 true leaves

📅 Growing times throughout the year

  • Summer cultivation: sow under glass in February, plant out outdoors between mid-April and mid-May, harvest from mid-August to November.
  • Mid-early cultivation: sow under glass in March, plant out outdoors from early to mid-May, harvest from mid-October to December.
  • Mid-late cultivation: sow outdoors from the end of March to the end of April, transplant outdoors from the end of May to the end of June, harvest from the end of November to about mid-January.
  • Late cultivation: sow outdoors from April to early May, transplant outdoors from early June to early July, harvest from late November to late March.
