Different varieties of zucchini seeds:
For a courgette with a really full flavour, the ' Black beauty ' is unbeatable. ' Black Forest F1 ' is a climbing variety that saves space in your vegetable garden. We also offer various courgette seeds (such as the ' Courgette mixed round F1 ') for courgette plants that produce round courgettes. The plants are very productive and the fruits are ideal for filling due to their round shape.
How to grow zucchini from seed?
For best results, we recommend that you sow your courgette seeds indoors or in a propagator . You can also sow courgette seeds directly into the ground once the danger of late frost has passed, but this will result in a later harvest. Indoors, you can sow courgette seeds from the end of March. As soon as they have two pairs of true leaves, you can prick out your plants into a p9 pot. Once the danger of frost has passed, you can plant them out to their final place in your vegetable garden. Plant them deep, up to their neck. This will cause the young stem to produce side roots, giving you a sturdy plant. Ice Saints (15 May) is a good guideline for planting out your courgettes, but be sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast.
Growing Organic Zucchini
These organically grown zucchini seeds are certified by the SKAL foundation. You can identify these seeds by the Organic quality mark and the terms 'Bio' or 'Organic'. For example 'Organic courgette Black Beauty '
Growing courgettes - watch out for ...
Courgettes are susceptible to mildew and mold, remove any leaves that are infected. Feed them with liquid fertilizer weekly as soon as the flowers start to form, this will keep your plants strong and healthy and will reduce the chance of mildew. Make sure the soil around your plant is kept weed free.
When to harvest courgettes?
Check your plants every day. Pick courgettes when they are young and not too big (about 15 cm). Courgettes grow quickly, when courgettes get too big they become pithy, develop seeds and lose their flavour. Have fun sowing!
