Grafted Yuzu citrus tree (Citrus x junos) - 2-litre pot

The Yuzu is a hardy citrus tree that can reach 2-3 metres in open ground, but it can also be kept well in a pot, where it will remain smaller. Because it is grafted, it is more resistant to the Dutch and Belgian climate. It can tolerate temperatures as low as -18°C and has significant thorns. This self-pollinating Yuzu is a highly sought-after Japanese citrus variety, famous among star chefs for its unique, aromatic zest that features notes of mandarin, lime, and a characteristic yuzu scent.

The fruits resemble a round, somewhat rough lemon and can be picked yellow/orange for a complex aroma, or green for more zest. Yuzu is used in a wide range of dishes, from sushi to desserts, and can also be turned into marmalade or candied peels.

Young plants are more sensitive to frost, so they should be grown in a protected environment for the first few years until the plants are large enough and have achieved full winter hardiness.

Tips and care:

• Planting: as the trees are delivered in pots, they can be planted all year round. Preferably plant in autumn, as the soil is still warm and moist, which will help the trees root well into the ground. Plants set in the autumn have a better-developed root system than those planted in the spring.
• Organic/non-organic: this planting stock comes from a small-scale nursery without an official organic certificate. But don't worry, we are certain that it is poison-free.
• Attention: Citrus plants can sometimes develop yellowish leaves in the winter. This is because they should not be given nutrients during this period. Otherwise, they would grow too vigorously, and the new shoots would be at an increased risk of freezing. Provide the plant with nutrients again in the spring, and it will turn a beautiful green once more.
