Plant the bulbs of the wild leek between September and mid-November. You will harvest them in August, similar to regular leek (pull them out instead of cutting them off). Regularly cut the flower stem to keep the plant healthy.

Planting distance: 15 cm from each other, one bulb (broadcast or in a row)

In the summer, the above-ground part of the plant dies off and new bulbs develop around the original bulb (= mother bulb). In early August, dig up these bulbs and plant them back in a row, just as you would with regular leek (one bulb every 15 cm). You can eat the excess bulbs; they have a mild flavour that is reminiscent of a mix of leek, spring onion and garlic.

After planting, new leek plants will grow shortly afterwards. You can harvest these before or just after the winter. Always leave enough plants to form new bulbs for the following season.
