The different types of tomato seeds:
Tomato seeds for cherry and snack tomatoes
Cherry tomatoes are small round tomatoes, also snack or aperitif tomatoes enough. Below you will find among others cherry tomato seeds Tiny Tim (to grow in pots), Cereza Amarilla (yellow), Black Cherry (dark) and Sweetie (sweet as honey).
Tomato seeds for plum tomatoes
Plum tomatoes have a long shape. We sow them to make sauce later. They have a lot of flesh and are very productive. Roma and San Marzano are our top varieties.
Tomato seeds for vine tomatoes
Tomatoes on the vine are round and larger than cherry tomatoes and usually have two seed chambers. They are multi-purpose in the kitchen. We selected the tomato seeds Moneymaker (very productive variety) and Golden Boy (yellow).
Tomato seeds for beefsteak tomatoes
Beef tomatoes are large and have many seed chambers. The Marmande , Pyros F1 , Coeur de Boeuf and Noire de crimée have less moisture and more meat compared to the other types.
When to sow tomato seeds?
Tomatoes are easy to grow. Plant your tomato seeds in a heated propagator in early spring. About 6 weeks before the last frost date.
How to grow tomato plants from seed?
A few tips will take you from tomato seeds to a perfect home-grown tomato.
Begin early spring by pre-sowing your tomato seeds in a heated propagator in a quality seed compost. You should check your tomato seeds each morning to make sure the soil is moist, but not soaked.
Towards the end of spring we start to harden off the tomato seedlings, by putting them outside in the fresh air during the day, but taking them back inside at night to protect them from the cold.
At the end of May it is time to plant them out in their final place for the summer. Give them a portion of liquid food every week or every two weeks for the first two months.
Make sure your tomato plants have enough space and that the air can circulate. As soon as you start to see tomato flowers, it is best to remove the side shoots. This way all the energy goes to the main branch and to forming tasty fruits.
Have fun growing your own tomatoes!
