The chestnut is a fairly hard wood, but it is long-lasting, very rich in tannin and originally has a whitish colour, which does not tend to turn brown afterwards. Because of its great durability, this wood has been used since ancient times for the construction of barrels and barriques.

After washing the barrel, you must ensure that it dries well and that there is no residual moisture. At this point, it must be sulphured with 5/10 g/hl.
If the barrel is not going to be used immediately, or at least not for several weeks or months, wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in a room with good hygrometry:
good hygrometry (75% – 80%)
absence of air currents
low light intensity
Cover with a cloth and avoid UV rays.
