Citrus tree kumquat or dwarf orange (Citrus forunella 'Rafael') - 2 liter pot

The Kumquat 'Rafael' is a compact citrus tree with glossy dark green leaves and fragrant white flowers. The small, orange fruits are sweet and can be eaten with the peel or made into jam or liqueur.

This species is remarkably hardy for a citrus fruit and should be able to survive temperatures down to about -18°C. The tree thrives both in a pot on a sunny patio and in the garden in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Because the 'Rafael' is fairly hardy, you can also leave the fruit on the tree during mild winters and pick them gradually when they are fully ripe.

Tips and care:

• Note: Citrus plants can sometimes develop slightly yellowish leaves in winter. This is because they shouldn't be fed during this period. Otherwise, they would grow too vigorously, and the new growth would be at increased risk of freezing. Feed the plant again in spring, and it will turn a beautiful green again.
