The Egyptian onion is a unique, perennial onion variety that forms small bulbs on the flower stalk (air onions), which you can easily plant or use directly in cooking. The flavor is spicy and reminiscent of shallots. This variety is winter-hardy and produces a new harvest year after year.

• Planting period: September – November or February – April
• Planting distance: 20 cm between plants, 30 cm between rows
• Planting depth: 3–5 cm deep, with the tip just above the ground
• Harvest time: summer and autumn (both the green shoots and the onions are edible)

Tip: You can replant the bulbs for a continuous harvest. Perfect for a low-maintenance vegetable garden.

These perennial onions initially produce delicious foliage, just like regular onions. But instead of flowers, small, flavorful onions form at the end of the stem. Perfect for confusing harmful insects!

Plant the seed onions in a pot in the fall and keep them in a greenhouse, conservatory, or indoors during the first winter if there's no frost. In the spring, you can transplant them to their final location. Add some organic fertilizer and vinasse potash every year, and you'll have onions for life.

You can dry the onions you eventually harvest and replant them in pots over the winter, making them easy to propagate. Leave about 60 cm of space around the plant.
