Tips and care

• Planting: plant the bulbs in the spring (April to May) once the risk of severe night frost has passed. Choose a warm, sunny, and sheltered location with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Plant the bulb so that a quarter of the neck or tip protrudes above the ground.

• Maintenance: water generously during the hot summer months and the active growth phase. Leave the plant alone after flowering and only cut back the foliage once it has completely withered, allowing the bulb to store all its energy again.

• Overwintering: the Cape Lily is moderately hardy (down to approx. -10°C). In the autumn, apply a thick protective layer of leaves or straw to plants in the open ground. If the plant is in a pot, move it to a cool, frost-free location for the winter.

• Open ground or pots: shines when planted individually or in groups in a sheltered spot in the border, but thanks to its impressive appearance, it is also excellently suited for large terrace pots and planters.
