Climbing zucchini 'Ola Escaladora' BIO

Climbing courgette 'Ola Escaladora' produces dark green fruits all summer long that taste delicious. Suitable as a fence or along the walls of a city garden. The plant loves sun. One bag is for approximately 3m2, and the planting distance is 60x60 cm.

Climbing courgette 'Ola Escaladora' grows easily upwards along wire mesh or fencing. This climbing courgette is suitable for smaller, walled vegetable gardens, such as city gardens, but of course also fits very nicely in a 'normal' vegetable garden along a fence. Or plant this courgette as a follow-up crop, against the fence of the early pods, garden peas or capuchin beans.

The long tendrils, which can reach a length of up to 5 metres, must be tied up regularly so that the plant can grow upwards. This climbing courgette produces tasty, dark green fruits of around 20 cm all summer long, provided that the courgettes are harvested regularly. 'Ola Escaladora' has a beautiful silver pattern in the leaf. If mildew occurs, this is often late in the season. The plant grows best in a sunny location.

Pre-sowing for cultivation in a greenhouse can be done as early as April. For cultivation in the open ground, pre-sowing can be done in May. Planting out can be done as soon as three leaves have developed. The plants grow in any well-fertilized soil and prefer to be sheltered from the wind. Do not make the soil too wet after pre-sowing. Harvest the fruits when they are about 15-20 cm long. The plants are not resistant to night frost.

Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

  1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
  2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
  3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
  4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
