Tips and care

• Planting: do this in the spring (March-May) or autumn (October-December). Plant them 12 to 15 cm deep in slightly acidic, well-drained, and humus-rich soil. Lilies love a sunny head, but cool feet.

• Maintenance: keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid letting the roots stand in soil that is too wet. After flowering, only cut off the spent flowers and let the stem die back to conserve energy in the bulb.

• Overwintering: oriental lilies are hardy in open ground. In case of extreme frost, cover the soil with a layer of leaves or compost for extra protection.

• Open ground or pots: shines in large groups in the border and is excellent for planting in deep patio pots.
