Parsnip 'Tender and True' BIO

'Tender and True' is an easy to grow parsnip that can withstand frost well. The tubers look like carrots, but are white. Touching them in sunny weather can cause burns. One bag is for approximately 7m2, and the planting distance is 35x15 cm.

Parsnip 'Tender and True' is easy to grow and can tolerate quite a lot of frost. Be careful in sunny weather: touching the plant can cause burns. Pinksternakel tubers, or parsnips, used to be a main ingredient of the hot meal, later replaced by potatoes and carrots. The tubers look like carrots, but are white. Parsnip Tender and True is easy to grow and requires little fertilization.

Sow in situ from April to mid-May. With a row distance of 35 cm, thin the plants in the row to 10 to 15 cm.

Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

  1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
  2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
  3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
  4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
