'President' dwarf plum tree – 5-litre pot

President is a reliable, self-pollinating plum tree that produces a rich harvest every year of large, dark purple plums with a sweet, aromatic flavor and juicy flesh. A late harvest in August-September, but all the more worthwhile for it. The fruits are delicious fresh from the tree but also perfect for jam, baking, and other preparations.

A strong tree that is not very susceptible to diseases and thrives excellently in small gardens.

What is a dwarf tree?
Dwarf (or low-stem) means the tree is grafted onto a slow-growing rootstock, causing the small trees to bear fruit sooner and grow less tall. The advantages of this are that they are suitable for smaller (vegetable) gardens, allowing you to grow more varieties in the same space. It is also convenient that you can harvest easily, safely, and without a long ladder.

Key features:

• Harvest period: August-September
• Flavor: sweet, aromatic, juicy
• Fruit color: dark purple
• Use: fresh eating, jam, baking, desserts
• Location: full sun, sheltered

Tips and care:

• Planting: because the small trees are delivered in pots, they can be planted all year round. Preferably plant in autumn in a sunny, sheltered spot in nutritious, well-draining soil.
• Pruning: prune after the harvest in the summer, never in the winter. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches for a healthy, open crown.
• Feeding: fertilize in the spring with an organic fertilizer. Give an extra dose in the summer during fruit development.
• Ground or pots: they will always grow better and produce more fruit in the open ground.
• Support: provide support the first year with a stake and tree tie.

TIP: President is a late plum; wait patiently until the fruits are fully ripe before you harvest. Fully ripe plums are dark purple and give slightly when you press them gently.
