General information about the Cabernet Cantor vine variety :

Grape :

A interspecific intersection between Chancellor and Solaris executed in 1989 Through Norbert Becker by It Freiburg im Breisgau Research Institute in Germany . Cabernet Cantor is found in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Lithuania and Poland, but is little known in France.

Wine :

Produces a wine with a beautiful intense red color, fruity, tannic, rich in alcohol and phenolic extracts and well suited to aging in oak barrels. Can sometimes lack some acidity. Aromas of cherries, herbs, peppers, plums, ... Where Cabernet Cortis has characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Frank, Cabernet Cantor has characteristics of Merlot.

Cultivation advice for Cabernet Cantor vine :

Medium early ripening.
Tolerates winter cold well. Very vigorous, hanging growth habit, must be trained on wires because it produces numerous side shoots that must be carefully trained. Depending on the year, sensitive to coulure. Resistant to downy mildew, grey rot and dead leaf blight, but slightly less resistant to powdery mildew. However, it is always advisable to carry out two specific treatments, one before/during flowering and the other at the end of flowering/setting.

Preparation of the Cabernet Cantor vine:

Put your vine in a bucket of water for 24 hours. This way it can suckle itself full again before planting out.

Ground preparation :

You can improve your soil with lava grit (if lime soil) or with bentonite and lava flour (if sandy soil).

Planting out a grapevine :

Make a hole with a diameter of 10 cm and +/- 30 cm deep with a ground drill or spade. And plant the vine with the graft just above the ground. The vine may come out of the ground between 5 and 10 cm. Plant your vines between May 1 and May 15 and leave 1 meter between the plants and 1.5 to 1.8 meters between the rows.
