Pinotin vine on SO4 rootstock (Piwi - resistant)

General information about vine variety Pinotin:

The red variety (also VB 91-26-19) is a new interspecific selection; the cross was made in 1991 by breeder and vineyard owner Valentin Blattner in Soyhières in the Swiss canton of Jura, and the selection was subsequently carried out at the Freytag viticultural school in Neustadt/Lachen-Speyerdorf in the Palatinate (Germany).

For a long time it was thought to be a cross between Pinot Noir and unknown resistant partners. However, the breeder himself announced that a complex cross Cabernet Sauvignon x (Silvaner x (Riesling x Vitis vinifera) x (JS 12417 x Chancellor) was the basis; it therefore contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. This medium-ripening variety is resistant to both types of mildew, botrytis and frost. It produces a ruby-red wine with aromas of black cherries. In 2016, an area of 0.2 hectares was registered in Switzerland (statistics Kym Anderson). There are also small populations in Germany.

Preparation of vine variety Pinotin:

Put your vine in a bucket of water for 24 hours. This way it can suckle itself full again before planting out.

Ground preparation :

You can improve your soil with lava grit (if lime soil) or with bentonite and lava flour (if sandy soil).

Planting out a grapevine:

Make a hole with a diameter of 10 cm and +/- 30 cm deep with a ground drill or spade. And plant the vine with the graft just above the ground. The vine may come out of the ground between 5 and 10 cm. Plant your vines between May 1 and May 15 and leave 1 meter between the plants and 1.5 to 1.8 meters between the rows.
