Dit is het recept dat ik maak als ik snel vers fatbread op tafel wil. Geen wachttijden, geen gedoe, gewoon een paar ingrediënten en binnen het uur klaar. Zelfgemaakt flatbread is bovendien heel veelzijdig.

Flatbread is my go-to recipe when I want something delicious on the table quickly. Simple, fast, and incredibly versatile. You can pair it with almost anything. From fried chicken to grilled vegetables, from falafel to cheese. Once you've made this recipe, you won't want anything else.

Frequently asked questions about baking flatbread:

Which flour should I use for flatbread?

All-purpose flour (T56 from Wildfarmed) is the base for this simple recipe. Looking for a more nutritious version? Replace half the flour with whole wheat flour. This gives the flatbread a fuller flavor and extra fiber without making the recipe more difficult.

Why do I use baking powder instead of yeast?

Baking powder ensures fluffy flatbread without a long proofing time. No waiting, no yeast. Just make the dough, knead, and bake. This is the easiest recipe for fresh bread on a weekday. Perfect as a quick lunch or side dish.

    How do I bake flatbread?

Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat and cook each flatbread for 2 to 3 minutes per side until nice brown spots appear and the bread puffs up slightly. You can also bake flatbread in the oven at 220°C (convection) for 5 to 7 minutes on a baking sheet.

    How can I top flatbread?

There are countless ways to top flatbread. Use it as a wrap with fried chicken, lettuce, red onion, and sauce. Serve it as a side dish at a BBQ with grilled vegetables, falafel, or cheese. Add fresh herbs, garlic, or Italian herbs for extra flavor. With ground meat, tomato, or parmesan, you can turn it into a full dinner.

What are the best toppings for flatbread?

Favorite toppings include fresh rosemary, garlic, and extra virgin olive oil for a classic combination. Sun-dried tomatoes, grilled vegetables, and red onion also work perfectly. Flatbread is the ideal base recipe to create your own version. Experiment with your favorite ingredients.

Can I make the dough in advance?

Yes. Make the dough, cover the bowl, and store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Let the dough come to room temperature for 15 minutes before rolling and baking. This way, you always have fresh bread on the table quickly.

Is flatbread the same as naan or pita?

Naan, pita, and flatbread are all flatbreads, but they differ in preparation method and origin. Naan originally comes from India and is traditionally baked in a tandoor oven. Pita comes from the Middle East and puffs up during baking, creating a pocket. This flatbread recipe is a quick base recipe without yeast that you bake in a regular skillet.

Can I use whole wheat flour for flatbread?

Yes. Replace half the flour with whole wheat flour for a more nutritious, high-fiber version. The dough becomes slightly firmer but remains pliable and nicely soft after baking.

How do I store homemade flatbread?

Store freshly baked flatbread in a clean tea towel at room temperature for up to 1 day. Warm briefly in a dry skillet before serving. Tastes like freshly baked bread. For longer storage, freeze the flatbreads and heat them directly in the pan or oven.

What do I serve flatbread with at a BBQ?

Flatbread is the perfect side dish for a BBQ. Serve it alongside grilled vegetables, fried chicken, ground meat, or falafel. With a fresh salad, red onion, and a nice sauce, you can make it a complete meal. Homemade flatbread is always a hit at a party or family BBQ.
