Mixed lettuce Mesclun 'Pure Lettuce' Organic
Mesclun 'Puur Sla' is a colorful lettuce mixture of the varieties 'Red Salad Bowl', 'Suzan', Lettuce 'Wonder of the Four Seasons' and 'Little Leprechaun'.
'Witte Dunsel Select' lettuce seeds
A fast-growing and productive variety with soft, light green leaves. This variety bolts slowly, allowing for a longer harvest and less chance of bolting in warm weather. The leaves can be harvested at the optimal time for optimal flavor. Suitable for both open ground and containers.
Lettuce 'American Red Edge'
This lettuce with red leaf edges adds a touch of color to your plate and your garden. The long leaves are easy to pick for immediate use. The leaves are mild in flavor, tender, and decorative, making them easy to grow.
Lettuce 'Lollo Bionda'
Frizzy, fresh green lettuce with a decorative appearance and mild flavor. The leaves have an attractive green color and are as crisp as iceberg lettuce. Ideal for use in salads and as a garnish.
Curly lettuce 'Lollo Rossa'
Dark red curly lettuce with a soft bite, its texture similar to butterhead lettuce. This lettuce resembles oak leaf lettuce in texture and pairs well with other lettuces on your plate and in your garden.
Romaine lettuce 'Little Gem'
Lettuce grows best in loose, moist soil in a partially sunny location. For successful cultivation, it's important that the seeds germinate first; seeds germinate best in moderate temperatures. Growing your own lettuce allows you to control the growing conditions and choose varieties that suit your garden. Fresh lettuce is ideal as a raw vegetable, and common head lettuce is an easy-to-grow variety, perfect for beginners. Be aware that some varieties don't form heads, but develop loose leaves. Lamb's lettuce requires specific germination conditions and is known for its nutty flavor. Too much heat or drought? Then it bolts. So water regularly and resow every few weeks for a constant supply. Lettuce thrives at temperatures between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.
Practical tips:
- Sowing time: from March to September
- Sowing depth: ±0.5 cm
- Distance: 25–30 cm between heads
- Water: regularly, especially during dry periods
- Harvest: Cut off the leaves or harvest the entire head. Unlike heads like Lollo Bionda, cut-your-own lettuce is usually harvested leaf by leaf.

Butterhead lettuce is a popular, tender, and versatile variety available in various varieties. Some varieties are also disease-resistant, ensuring a successful crop. Sow, harvest, repeat—and enjoy something fresh every time.
Harvesting and storing your lettuce
Harvesting your lettuce is such a wonderful moment: you're standing in your garden (or on your balcony) and seeing those beautiful, crisp leaves you grew yourself. Simply magical, isn't it? To optimally enjoy those delicious, tender leaves, I'd be happy to help you find the right time and the best way to harvest and store them.
It's best to pick your lettuce early in the morning, when the leaves are still nice and cool with dew. This way, they'll stay crisp for much longer and retain that soft, fresh flavor you've cultivated. Always use a sharp knife to neatly trim heads, loose leaves, or those tender leaves from your romaine lettuce. This way, your plant stays healthy and can continue to grow—handy, right?
Red lettuce, romaine lettuce, and those delicious mixed varieties are really sensitive to heat and moisture. So keep a close eye on them and harvest as soon as the leaves are nice and full and firm. With loose-leaf and cut-your-own lettuce, always remove the outer leaves, so the center can continue to grow and you can harvest much longer. For romaine lettuce, you can easily sow and harvest several times per season: just cut off the young leaves and let the plant sprout again.
After harvesting, rinse the leaves immediately in cold water. Gently pat them dry with a clean cloth and store them in an airtight container or bag in the refrigerator. This will keep your heads, loose leaves, and tender leaves fresh and crisp for a few days. Note: lettuce is quite susceptible to spoilage, so use your harvested leaves as soon as possible for the best flavor.
Want to enjoy your own lettuce again next year? Let a few heads or plants grow well: they'll produce flowers that will later produce seeds. Harvest those romaine lettuce seeds or other lettuce seeds when they're completely dry and store them in a cool, dark place until the next sowing season. This way, you can continue to enjoy your homegrown lettuce year after year—so nice, isn't it?
With these tips, you can enjoy fresh, flavorful lettuce all year round – straight from your own garden, balcony, or even a pot on the windowsill. Harvest, taste, and discover how incredibly delicious your own lettuce can be!
