The stalks and young leaves of the celery 'Tall Utah 52/70' can be eaten. Sow in a container under glass in mid-April.

Celery 'Tall Utah 52/70' is a fragrant vegetable, of which the stems and young leaves are eaten. Rich in nutrients. Celery is a 'light germinator', and should therefore not be sown too deep. In addition, germination is slow, and can take up to 3 weeks. Celery has clearly more growth power than celery. Celery requires a strong humus-rich soil. Sow under glass in the second half of April in a tray. Plant out at the end of May, beginning of June at 35x35 cm. The stems are fully grown at the end of the summer. Cannot tolerate much frost, so protect in time in the autumn.

Saving seeds

Store seeds in a cool, dry and dark place, such as a sealed box in a cupboard. Pay attention to the expiration date on the packaging and use them before that time. If the packaging has been opened, make sure it is sealed properly and check the germination capacity before use.

You can easily test the germination capacity of seeds with a germination test :

  1. Place a few seeds (for example 10) on a damp piece of kitchen paper.
  2. Fold the paper towel closed and place it in a plastic bag or place it in a sealed container.
  3. Place it in a warm place, such as on the windowsill.
  4. After a few days, check to see if the seeds have started to germinate.
