Bacteria and fungi (Micro-organisms) break down Vegetable, Fruit and Garden Waste (GFT) as soon as it is added to the hotbin, generating heat as a by-product. Without an external heat source, the HOTBIN reaches temperatures between 40-60°C!
Add your kitchen and garden waste to the hotbin every 2/3 days ( at least once a week). This should be mixed with shredded paper (to regulate moisture) and coarse brown waste , such as wood chips, (to create air spaces).
Hotbin is an aerobic compost bin that draws in cold air ( oxygen ) through the air inlet at the bottom. The air feeds the microorganisms with oxygen, which helps the process of hot composting to start.
The hotbin functions as an insulated chimney with three layers: a top hot active layer, a maturing warm middle layer and a cool base.
Harvest your homemade compost from the hotbin every 30-90 days. Let your (vegetable) garden, houseplants or lawn grow and flourish!
