White bread recipe for bread maker: Light and fluffy with a dark, crusty exterior

This white bread is on our menu every single day. Put the ingredients in the bread tin, set the program, and the machine does the rest. No kneading, no fuss, just fresh bread whenever you need it. The kids are absolutely crazy about it, and honestly, I am too.

Frequently asked questions about the bread machine recipe:

Which program should I use for this white bread?

Use the Basic program on your bread machine, set to 750g with a dark crust. This program is suitable for most bread machines, including Domo and other brands. When in doubt, always consult your device's instruction manual for the correct program.

In what order do I add the ingredients?

Add the liquids first: water, milk, butter, and honey. Then sprinkle the flour and dry ingredients over it. Make a small well in the flour and add the salt on one side and the yeast on the other. Salt and yeast should not come into direct contact, otherwise, it will inhibit the yeast's action.

What does wheat gluten powder do in this recipe?

Wheat gluten powder is a valuable addition that strengthens the gluten network. This results in a fluffier bread with more volume and a better structure. A little bit makes a big difference in the final result.

Can I use the timer function for this recipe?

Yes, with a small adjustment. Replace the milk with extra water, as milk can become damp or spoil during long waiting times. This way, you can prepare the ingredients in the evening and wake up to freshly baked bread.

Why do I use a bread improver?

The organic bread improver from Molen De Hoop supports the rising process and provides a more stable structure and fluffiness. It is not a mandatory ingredient, but it is a valuable addition for a consistent result every time you bake.

Can I also knead this recipe by hand?

Yes. Mix all the ingredients and knead the dough for 10 minutes by hand until you have a smooth, elastic dough. Let the dough rise for 1 hour, shape it in a loaf tin, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 200°C. However, the bread machine remains the fastest and easiest option for daily use.

How do I store freshly baked bread machine bread?

Let the bread cool completely on a wire rack before storing it in a bread bag or tea towel. This keeps it fresh for up to 3 days. For longer storage, slice the bread and freeze it. Ideal for a quick breakfast without any extra effort.

Can I adapt this recipe for whole wheat bread?

Yes. Replace a portion of the wheat flour with whole wheat flour for a more nutritious variant with more fiber. The bread will have a slightly denser structure but will retain its fluffiness thanks to the wheat gluten powder and bread improver.
